Today our community had our first celebration of Tu B’shevat, the New Year for Trees, at Thorpe Hall Hospice, Peterborough.
After a very brief service held indoors, members and guests braved the cold and rain to plant a vine and a fig tree which we’ve donated to the Hospice. Thorpe Halls’ gardener had kindly prepped the planting areas in the garden so the children could take turns with filling and pressing in as members and guests sang Hashkediyah porachat.
Returning to the welcome warmth of the sanctuary room we shared traditional Shabbat kiddush of wine and challah, followed by a special kiddush of a range of fruits and nuts. A big thank you to Elaine, the hospice chaplain, for welcoming and enabling us to share the festival and strengthen our connection with the Sue Ryder, Thorpe Hall community.
